The project for a major overhaul of the multi-apartment building, a cultural heritage site called the Residential Building of the People's Commissariat of Railways, located at 22/2 Spiridonovka Street, has been approved. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.

"The former People's Commissariat of Railways building on Spiridonovka, well known to Muscovites, was built between 1932 and 1940 in two stages, based on designs by Georgy Voloshinov and Leonid Polyakov. The building will soon undergo renovations necessary to preserve its appearance and maintain its operational characteristics in line with modern standards. The overhaul project has undergone mandatory state review and received a positive assessment. Specialists will restore the public areas and façades, including the historical decorative elements," said Vladimir Efimov.

Specialists will perform local repairs in areas where utility lines were previously replaced, as well as finishing work in entryways, repairing roofs and facades, and restoring exterior decorative elements.

"The renovation project is a residential brick building of varying heights with an 11-meter tower. The building has 12 entrances. In each entrance, according to the project, the plaster finish on the walls and ceilings will be replaced, the concrete floors and stair treads will be repaired and varnished, and the railings will be cleaned, repaired, and repainted. In the basement, wooden partitions will be replaced, antifungal treatment will be carried out, and new finishing of the walls, ceilings, and floors will be carried out using various materials depending on the functional purpose of the premises," said the Chairman of the Moscow City Committee for Pricing Policy in Construction and State Expertise of Projects (Moskomexpertiza).

Ivan Shcherbakov.

Since the house is an architectural monument, all work will be carried out under the supervision of the capital Department of Cultural Heritage.

The building's facades, including decorative elements, will be cleared of dirt and old paint and locally treated with biocidal agents. Lost decorative elements of architraves, cornices, door portals, arches, and pilaster capitals will be restored using additional assembly. Upon completion of this work, the facades will be painted.

The major renovation will also include the building's roof. The roofing sheets will be replaced, and the superstructure will be repaired.

Pavel Ryabonenko, Deputy General Director of the Moscow Capital Repairs Fund, added that this building is a unique structure that bridges two Soviet architectural eras. The first phase was built in the constructivist style, while the second was constructed in the Soviet neoclassical style. For the Moscow Capital Repairs Fund, the priority is not only to restore the building to its authentic historical appearance but also to make it comfortable for its residents.
