An immersive multimedia exhibition, "Being Van Gogh," has opened in Pavilion No. 67, "Karelia," at VDNKh. Using modern technology, the exhibition brings together approximately 200 images of paintings, sketches, and rare archival materials, including the artist's letters to his brother, Theo.
The exhibition covers key stages in the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. The "Searching for Oneself" section explores the development of his personality in his youth, his complex family relationships, his search for identity and his calling, his early creative experiences, and the influence of Paris and his encounter with the Impressionists.
The "Arles Period" hall tells about the most fruitful period in the artist's career.
It was here, in the city of Arles, that Van Gogh's unique style was formed and his most famous works were created.
The "Southern Workshop" hall is dedicated to his dream of a brotherhood of like-minded artists, a shared search for the ideal art of the future. This desire gave the world a genius, but for the master himself, it turned into disappointment and tragedy.
The exhibition concludes with a room dedicated to Van Gogh's dark premonitions. Here, the events of his final years come to life in the form of a prophetic dream: his best works are consumed by the flames of madness, and he sees the corridors of the hospitals where he would spend his final years, along with their inhabitants. The climax comes with a prophetic vision—a field of crows and the shot that ended the artist's life.
The installation is complemented by animated paintings and original music.
The exhibition is a paid event, with family, discounted, and free tickets available. It will run until January 11th. Visitors can visit on odd-numbered days from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
