BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — From January to October 2025, the total number of freight train departures from Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on China-Europe international freight train routes reached 5,063, an increase of 16.3 percent year-on-year, the Chinese newspaper Economic Daily reported, citing local government data.
This figure exceeded the 5,000 mark for the first time in the first 10 months of the year, reaching a new high in recent years.
The rapid growth rate of this indicator is driven by improved efficiency in China-Europe freight train services. The Xi'an branch of China State Railway Corporation (CSRC) continues to expand its transportation network and create an integrated system of freight channels.
"We have optimized the process, increased the efficiency of issuing orders for China-Europe trains by 52.9 percent, and reduced costs for return trips by 20 percent," said Li Shiguang, station manager of Xi'an International Port, which is affiliated with the Xi'an branch of the Chinese Railway Corporation.
"Steel camels" loaded with goods ply the international China-Europe rail freight routes, delivering "Made in China" brand products to Asian and European countries, as well as delivering high-quality foreign goods to China on the return journey.
BYD, Geely, and other automakers with branches in Shaanxi Province are actively using China-Europe freight trains to export commercial vehicles to foreign countries. According to statistics, 112,000 vehicles were exported from Xi'an on such trains in the first half of 2025. -0-
