Beijing, December 9 (Xinhua) — A truck with a TIR logo, loaded with goods worth 2.2 million yuan, recently passed through the Manzhouli Port of Entry and Exit (TIR) in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on the China-Russia border. This is the 2,000th truck inspected and released by Manzhouli customs officials under the TIR system since the beginning of this year, according to a statement posted on the official website of the General Administration of Customs.
According to customs statistics, Manzhouli Customs handled a total of 1,968 trucks under the TIR system in the first 11 months of 2025, a 2.76-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024. The total value of goods transported was 2.566 billion yuan, a 5.41-fold increase year-on-year.
TIR is an international system that simplifies the transport of goods between countries. Under this system, cargo is sealed at the starting point of the route and inspected only upon arrival at the destination. At intermediate border crossings, border crossing officers merely verify the TIR carnet data and the customs stamp on the vehicle. This reduces transit time and mitigates potential risks associated with administrative customs procedures and cargo damage. China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016.
"As China's trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) grows, the Manzhouli automobile border crossing has become an important logistics hub. We will continue to implement new initiatives in the area of supervision and control services aimed at facilitating the improvement of the quality of TIR shipments, expanding their routes, and increasing the volume of related shipments," said Ren Yanqiang, a customs official at Manzhouli. -0-
