Beijing, December 9 (Xinhua) — A court recently ruled on compensation claims filed by relatives of some of the passengers missing on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the Beijing Higher People's Court said in a statement released Monday.

The eight cases in which the above-mentioned ruling has been issued so far concern eight passengers on that flight. On December 5, the Chaoyang District People's Court in Beijing ordered the defendants to pay compensation to the plaintiffs in accordance with the Montreal Convention and relevant Chinese laws.

The payout for each case, which is over 2.9 million yuan (approximately 410,000 US dollars), includes compensation for the death of a passenger relative, funeral expenses, compensation for moral damages, as well as other losses and related expenses.

On March 8, 2014, flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared without a trace. There were 239 people on board. Since 2016, family members of the 75 missing passengers have filed 78 lawsuits against Malaysia Airlines and other defendants, seeking compensation and the creation of a search-and-rescue fund, among other claims, the court said. -0-
