CHONGQING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) — A direct air route was opened between southwest China's Chongqing and Myanmar's Yangon on Monday, expected to boost tourism and business exchanges between the two countries.

The route is served by China West Air. Round-trip flights are operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, on an Airbus A320.

Flights depart Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport at 9:35 AM Beijing Time and arrive at Yangon International Airport at 11:20 AM local time. Return flights depart Yangon at 12:15 PM local time and land in Chongqing at 3:45 PM Beijing Time.

Myanmar's Ambassador to China, Tin Maung Swe, noted that the launch of this flight marks an important milestone in the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and will contribute to the development of cooperation between the two countries.

China West Air Chairman Wang Ke noted that the launch of this route is an important measure by the company to support the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote Chongqing's expansion of its opening up to the outside world.

Currently, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport operates 36 passenger air routes, with more than 190 flights operated weekly, covering North America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. -0-
