As part of his working visit to Buryatia, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev visited the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant of Russian Helicopters (a Rostec state corporation).

The Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant is one of the largest enterprises in the Russian aviation industry. For over 85 years, it has maintained its status as one of the country's key helicopter manufacturers, combining generations of experience with modern technology. Over its history, the plant has produced over 9,000 aircraft—both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

The company produces the Mi-8/171 multirole helicopter, the most widely produced twin-engine helicopter in the world. It is actively involved in expanding its civilian helicopter lineup and developing promising projects: the company is currently working on the serial production of the new Mi-171A3 multirole helicopter for offshore operations.

The plant has its own certified training center for training and retraining flight crews and engineering and technical personnel. A special highlight is the unique Mi-171A3 helicopter simulator.

The enterprise boasts a full technological complex for the manufacture of aircraft. Today, the plant produces Mi-8AMT helicopters in cargo, passenger, search and rescue, firefighting, medical, VIP, and convertible (transport/VIP) configurations, as well as the multirole Mi-171 and Mi-171A2 helicopters. The first production aircraft of the new generation, the Mi-171A3, is currently being manufactured.

The company is continuously working to improve labor productivity, installing modern and more efficient equipment, and expanding its technological capabilities. A number of investment projects have been implemented at the plant, including a new flight test station building and a centralized cafeteria, machine tool upgrades, and the reconstruction of the engineering building is nearing completion.

"We discussed the idea that, in addition to a propeller that holds the vehicle in place, it would be a good idea to consider a propeller that facilitates movement and pulls or pushes the vehicle. This would impact speed and efficiency. New opportunities have emerged. Previously, transmitting torque from a top-mounted engine required a complex transmission, which required high reliability parameters and would have added weight. Now, this can be achieved with an electric drive. This needs to be addressed. We will either catch up with the trend and join other countries working on this technology, or we will fall behind. I will return to Moscow and invite representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rostec, and we will discuss this topic, because progress and our ability to stay competitive are among the most important areas that we in the government must monitor and control," said Yuri Trutnev following his visit.
