BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Thursday called for stepping up efforts to deepen engineering education reform and train high-quality engineering professionals needed for the country's development.

Speaking at a symposium on reforming the process of training top-notch engineers, Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, called for encouraging greater participation of leading universities and enterprises in this work.

He noted that the training process should focus on the needs of the modern production system and engineering construction.

Ding Xuexiang called for deeper integration of production and education and cooperation between universities and enterprises to improve the quality and efficiency of training talented specialists.

He also pointed to the need to promote bilateral and multilateral mutual recognition of engineering qualifications and educational standards to better support Chinese enterprises in going international. –0–
