Moscow, December 3 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met here on Tuesday, calling for the defense of the victory in World War II.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese-Russian relations have reached a high level, broad coverage, and high-quality development.
He said that this year, the two heads of state held two in-depth exchanges of views on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II, charted the course for the future development of bilateral relations, and brought stability and certainty to the world.
Wang Yi noted that both sides agreed to firmly uphold the achievements of the Victory in World War II, resolutely oppose any regressive actions that attempt to whitewash colonial aggression, and call for justice and fairness.
As permanent members of the UN Security Council and countries bound by a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era, China and Russia should continue coordination and cooperation to resolutely suppress provocative actions by Japanese far-right forces that undermine regional peace and stability and attempt to carry out remilitarization, Wang Yi said.
According to him, visa-free entry into Russia for Chinese citizens is a clear manifestation of the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in the new era and will facilitate travel between the two countries, as well as promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Noting that next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Russian partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and the Russian Federation, Wang Yi said that new historical opportunities are opening up for the development of Chinese-Russian relations.
According to S. Lavrov, the exchange of visits between the two heads of state this year has given new impetus to the further strengthening of Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction.
He reaffirmed that Russia adheres to the one-China principle and firmly supports China's position on the Taiwan issue.
According to Sergey Lavrov, Russia is prepared to seize the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation as an opportunity to intensify high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, expand mutual travel, and achieve mutual benefit.
The two sides also held an in-depth exchange of views on other international and regional issues of mutual interest. –0–
