Paris, December 1 (Xinhua) – Any “peace plan” regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine can only be finalized with the participation of both Ukraine and Europe in the negotiations, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday.
E. Macron made the announcement at a joint press conference at the Elysée Palace following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived in Paris on a visit.
Speaking about issues such as frozen Russian assets, security guarantees, and Ukraine's potential accession to the European Union, E. Macron noted that agreements "can only be finally reached if Europeans are at the negotiating table."
The French President also stressed that “as of today, there is no final peace plan as such.”
For his part, V. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine seeks to end the conflict "in a dignified manner." He called for "firm" security guarantees and stated that "the territorial issue will be the most difficult one" in future negotiations.
In addition, according to a statement from the Elysée Palace, on Monday, E. Macron and V. Zelenskyy held discussions with other European leaders, as well as with American and Ukrainian negotiators.
According to Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with US Special Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff in Moscow on December 2. The meeting will focus on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The 28-point US-proposed "peace plan" was released two weeks ago. Following its publication, representatives from the US, Ukraine, and several European countries met in Geneva on November 23 to discuss the plan.
On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and S. Witkoff held talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Hallandale Beach, Florida. –0–
