Baghdad, December 1 (Xinhua) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met Sunday with US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack to discuss regional stability and efforts to prevent further escalation.

Both sides stressed the need to avoid any further escalation and to pursue diplomatic solutions to resolve disputes, “placing the region on a trajectory of cooperation, economic growth and long-term stability,” the prime minister’s press service said in a statement.

The parties also discussed ways in which “Iraq can continue to support the stability, security, prosperity, and economic revival of Syria in ways that will also strengthen the stability and prosperity of Iraq itself.”

T. Barak emphasized the “constructive and important” role that Iraq can play in achieving these common goals. –0–
