UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated his call for irreversible progress towards a two-state solution in his message on Saturday to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

This year's International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls annually on November 29, comes after two years of terrible suffering in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a much-needed ceasefire, he said.

While the recent ceasefire offers a "glimmer of hope," "it is now crucial that all parties fully respect it and work in good faith toward solutions aimed at restoring and upholding international law," the UN chief stressed.

He noted that large-scale access to vital humanitarian aid must be ensured in the Gaza Strip, and the international community must continue to strongly support the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

“I reiterate my call for an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories… and for irreversible progress towards the realization of a two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, in which Israel and Palestine coexist in peace and security within their secure and recognized borders, based on the 1967 lines, with Jerusalem as the capital of both States,” said A. Guterres. –0–
