Pyongyang, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) — Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Friday condemned the military exercises between the United States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) and their arms buildup, calling Washington "a ringleader threatening peace and stability and undermining the strategic security balance."
The US and South Korea recently conducted naval counter-special forces exercises in the waters off Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, according to KCNA. The maneuvers focused on countering "infiltration" and involved a guided-missile destroyer, anti-submarine helicopters, maritime patrol aircraft, and other naval and air force assets.
Washington has deployed additional F-16 fighter jets to Osan Air Base in Gyeonggi Province to strengthen joint operational capabilities aimed at deterring North Korea and regional countries, KCNA added.
The DPRK "will continue to devote itself to protecting national sovereignty and interests and maintaining regional peace and stability through the exercise of its fundamental rights as long as the US continues to break its record of displaying military power that threatens countries in the region," the commentary said. -0-
