COLOMBO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) — The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a red alert for land and adjacent sea areas as a deep depression formed off the country's coast in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclone dubbed "Ditwah."

According to the agency, heavy rain, strong winds, and hazardous sea conditions are expected in the coming days as the cyclone moves across the island.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant in light of severe weather conditions expected to continue until November 30 and to monitor the latest information from the Department of Meteorology.
