St. Petersburg, November 27 /Xinhua/ — The 15th International Russian-Chinese Song Contest "Confucius Cup" was held in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, with 27 participants performing solo vocal numbers.

The competition was organized by the ChUODO "Academy of Oriental Languages and Culture "Confucius" and the State Budgetary Educational Institution "Secondary Comprehensive School No. 32" of the Vasileostrovsky District of St. Petersburg, with the support of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in St. Petersburg and the St. Petersburg Education Committee.

In his speech at the competition, Chinese Consul General in St. Petersburg Luo Zhanhui said that the peoples of China and Russia enjoy a profound friendship. Music is a bridge for deepening mutual understanding, and the song contest provides a platform for youth from both countries to showcase their talents and exchange experiences. Next year marks the China-Russia Year of Education, and the Chinese Consulate General in St. Petersburg will continue its efforts to promote educational cooperation between the two countries.

According to the rules, the participants were divided into three groups: the Russian group included a children's subgroup aged 7-14 and an adult subgroup aged 15 and up. The Chinese group consisted of Chinese students studying in Russia, children of Chinese compatriots, and others aged 15 and up. The Chinese participants performed songs in Russian. The Russian participants performed songs in Chinese. Each participant performed only one song or medley. Performance time was no more than three minutes.

Well-known works from both countries were performed on stage, including "Moonlight Over the City," "Me and My Homeland," "On the Shore of Lake Baikal," and "The Horse." The vibrant performances, complete with national costumes and dances, earned warm applause from the audience.

Zhang Xunli, director of the Confucius Academy of Oriental Languages and Culture, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that as the number of Chinese culture enthusiasts in Russia grows, the Chinese-Russian song contest is becoming a platform for expanding ties between the youth of China and Russia.
