Yerevan, November 25 /Xinhua/ — A scientific conference on the topic “Strategic Partnership between China and Armenia: Content and Prospects” was held at Yerevan State University (YSU) on Tuesday, with more than 20 Chinese and Armenian scholars participating.
Conference participants praised the achievements in Chinese-Armenian relations and exchanged views on issues such as regional geopolitical trends, the two countries' common development goals, and new opportunities within the Belt and Road Initiative and the Crossroads of the World Initiative.
As Jin Zhe, Deputy Director of the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CAS), noted, the establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Armenia indicates that bilateral relations have entered a new stage of development.
According to her, both countries should make efforts to implement practical cooperation projects within the framework of the two initiatives, liberalizing and simplifying trade and investment procedures, strengthening cooperation in the areas of scientific and technological innovation and the digital economy, and expanding humanitarian exchanges.
"A window of opportunity for peaceful development has now opened for the South Caucasus region. If all parties deepen cooperation in the spirit of mutual understanding, trust, respect, equality, and mutual benefit, the South Caucasus's role as a transport corridor ensuring connectivity across the Eurasian continent will become even more significant," Jin Zhe emphasized.
Professor Alexander Markarov, Head of the Yerevan State University's International Cooperation Department, noted that over the past decades, Armenia and China have developed cooperation in political, economic, cultural, security, and international arenas. This has strengthened trust and created the foundation for successful cooperation between the two countries.
Armenia views China as a key partner, the Yerevan State University professor emphasized, adding that developing ties with China is an important element of Armenia's multi-vector foreign policy, allowing it to strengthen its position in Eurasia and find new channels for international cooperation.
"Developing ties with China helps Armenia find new resources for economic modernization, strengthen its diplomatic position, and expand its cultural presence on the global stage," explained A. Markarov.
The conference was jointly organized by Yerevan State University, the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia as part of the work of the Center for Chinese Studies of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences and Yerevan State University. –0–
