KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) — More than 18,000 people have been evacuated in Malaysia as of Tuesday due to emergencies during the northeast monsoon season, which has affected 10 states.

In Kelantan, where heavy rains continued for several days, more than 9,700 people were evacuated due to flooding. They were placed in 40 relief centers.

Other badly hit areas include Selangor state, where 2,718 people have been evacuated, and Perak state, where 2,881 people have been evacuated.

Malaysian Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said authorities had dispatched staff from various agencies and necessary materials to flood-affected states.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Ka Wo said the monsoons would not interfere with national exams as authorities had taken emergency measures to address the situation.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at a press conference that he was satisfied with the National Disaster Management Agency's flood preparedness. He instructed all agencies to make every effort to assist affected communities.
