BERLIN, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) — Germany's first major winter storm of the season killed at least four people and injured many others on Monday as snow and icy roads caused widespread accidents and traffic disruptions.
In the southern state of Bavaria, three people were killed in a collision between two trucks and a car, where police reported extremely slippery roads. Two people were seriously injured, and several others suffered moderate injuries.
The fourth fatality occurred in the southern state of Baden-Württemberg, where a 68-year-old man died after losing control of his vehicle on an icy road and crashing into another vehicle. The second driver sustained serious injuries.
In the central part of the state of Hesse, icy roads and overnight snowfall caused dozens of accidents, injuring nine people. According to police, more than 30 weather-related accidents occurred between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
Other federal states also reported isolated incidents and disruptions to road and rail traffic, most of which were relatively minor.
According to the German Meteorological Service, weather conditions will remain challenging: icy conditions and light frosts are expected in the east of the country, icy conditions are possible in the central and southern regions, and snowfalls are possible in the Alps. –0–
