BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) — China's total installed power capacity reached 3.75 billion kWh by the end of October this year, up 17.3 percent year on year, official data showed Monday.

The total installed capacity of solar power plants continues to be the main driver of growth, showing a 43.8 percent jump year-on-year to 1.14 billion kW, while the same indicator for wind power plants (WPP) showed strong growth, increasing by 21.4 percent to 590 million kW, according to the State Administration of Energy (SEA) of China.

According to the State Energy Agency, as of the end of September this year, the installed capacity of power plants operating on renewable energy sources in China reached nearly 2.2 billion kW, which accounted for approximately 59.1 percent of the total installed capacity of power plants in the country.

China has created the world's largest renewable energy system. In the first four years of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), energy consumption per unit of GDP in China decreased by a combined 11.6 percent. China has promised to accelerate a comprehensive green transition and build a "Beautiful China" within the next five years.

China's electricity consumption, a key indicator of economic activity, posted double-digit growth last month, according to previously released data from the State Energy Information Administration. -0-
