SAO PAULO, November 24 (Xinhua) — The arrest of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro should not affect bilateral relations between Brazil and the United States because Brazil is a sovereign country, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Sunday.
J. Bolsonaro was taken into custody on Saturday morning in the country's capital, in accordance with a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court.
Referring to US President Donald Trump's comment on the arrest of J. Bolsonaro, L.I. Lula da Silva said: "Trump must know that we are a sovereign country and our justice system makes decisions."
