BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) — Exports passing through Beijing's two major airports grew steadily in the first 10 months of this year, underscoring the growing role of the high-tech and green sectors in the Chinese capital's foreign trade, according to Beijing Customs data.

The combined exports through Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport reached 214.64 billion yuan (about 30.28 billion US dollars) during the period, up 8.3 percent year-on-year.

Overall, Beijing's total merchandise trade volume in the first 10 months was 2.67 trillion yuan, and exports reached 515.69 billion yuan, up 2.8 percent, a record high.

Beijing's emerging industries demonstrated strong growth in the first 10 months. Exports of environmentally friendly and low-carbon products grew by 22.4 percent year-on-year, while biomedical exports grew by 15.8 percent and information technology exports by 14 percent. According to customs data, these industries were key drivers of regional export growth.

Beijing is setting ambitious targets for the operation of its two largest airports, aiming to reach a combined passenger throughput of more than 160 million people and a combined cargo and mail throughput of more than 2.5 million tons by 2030. -0-
