Wellington, November 22 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), called for deeper mutually beneficial cooperation between China and New Zealand. He paid an official visit to the country from November 19 to 22 at the invitation of Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives Gerry Brownlie.

During his visit, Zhao Leji met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Lacson in Auckland and held talks with George Brownlie in Wellington.

During his meeting with K. Lacson, Zhao Leji said that cooperation between the two countries in various fields has yielded fruitful results and the second decade of the comprehensive strategic partnership has started well.

He said China is willing to work with New Zealand to strengthen traditional friendship, enhance mutual understanding and trust, take into account each other's core interests and concerns, and be sincere friends and cooperative partners who treat each other as equals.

Zhao Leji expressed hope that China and New Zealand can deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, advance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and jointly promote trade and investment liberalization and regional economic integration.

K. Lakson said the traditional friendship between New Zealand and China is deep and the relationship between them is long-standing and stable.

Wellington has always adhered to the one-China policy, he noted. New Zealand is ready to strengthen dialogue and exchanges with China and cooperate in various areas, such as economics and trade, education, culture, tourism, environmental protection, and agriculture, to bring greater benefits to the people of both countries, the prime minister emphasized.

During his meeting with J. Brownlie, Zhao Leji said that China is willing to cooperate with New Zealand in strengthening exchanges at various levels and interactions between legislative bodies, strengthening communication and cooperation on multilateral platforms, and promoting the development of global governance in a more equitable and reasonable direction.

J. Brownlie noted that the New Zealand Parliament is ready to strengthen friendly exchanges with the NPC and play an active role in developing bilateral relations. –0–
