BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) — High-quality development of county-level economies in China has made significant progress, playing an increasingly prominent role in advancing China's modernization, a think tank said in a report.

The report, titled "County Economy in the New Era," was released Friday by the Xinhua Institute, a national-level think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency, at the Belt and Road International Think Tank Cooperation Forum held in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province.

Taking advantage of the new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, county-level regions have effectively strengthened their economies through the modernization of traditional industries and the innovative development of new productive forces, the report notes.

The document states that the essence of county-level economic development is to develop and strengthen leading industries, and emphasizes the importance of using technological innovation to promote industrial innovation, in particular, by using breakthrough and advanced technologies to create new industries, new models and new drivers of economic development, thereby building productive forces of new quality.

The report also notes that in the current era, when economic globalization and regional economic integration are becoming increasingly intertwined, the county economy and the open economy are no longer distant parallel directions, but are intertwined, creating a dynamic pattern of socio-economic development.

Globalization is no longer the preserve of large cities. More and more county-level regions are integrating into global value chains thanks to innovative policies and modern governance, according to the report.
