Tashkent, November 22 (Xinhua) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met on Friday with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The Uzbek leader asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and warmly congratulated him on the successful holding of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.
Sh. Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that all the tasks set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan will be successfully completed within the established timeframe, and thanked China for its long-term valuable support for Uzbekistan's economic and social development and improvement of the population's living standards.
The President of Uzbekistan stated that the two countries have achieved a breakthrough in cooperation in various fields and that no external factors will influence the development of bilateral relations.
Uzbekistan looks forward to working with China to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic mutual trust, advance the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, and strengthen cooperation in investment, high technology, transportation, agriculture, green energy, poverty reduction, humanitarian contacts, and subnational cooperation, said Sh. Mirziyoyev.
According to him, Uzbekistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is ready to cooperate with China to strengthen its long-standing friendship, resolutely combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism, be reliable friends and partners, and maintain relations of mutual respect, understanding, and mutual support.
The four global initiatives and the Belt and Road Initiative, put forward by President Xi Jinping, are of paramount importance for our era, and Uzbekistan is ready to cooperate with China in their implementation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized. Uzbekistan highly values China's increasingly important leading role in promoting peace and global development, the president added.
In turn, Wang Yi conveyed the warm greetings of Chairman Xi Jinping to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, noting that under the leadership of the two heads of state, relations between China and Uzbekistan have reached a new level, and bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results.
China firmly supports Uzbekistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also firmly supports the reform and development measures taken by President Mirziyoyev, Wang Yi said.
China and Uzbekistan have compatible development strategies, similar governance philosophies, and largely complementary economies. The two countries are mutually supportive, loyal friends, and close partners working together for development, the Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized.
Wang Yi reported that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee adopted the CPC Central Committee's recommendations for developing the 15th Five-Year Plan. It defines the overall direction of China's economic and social development over the next five years and opens up new opportunities for cooperation between China and Uzbekistan and global development.
China and Uzbekistan should accelerate the coordination of their development strategies, advance the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, achieve tangible results in cooperation in more areas, stimulate new growth areas for cooperation, and achieve a trade volume of US$20 billion as soon as possible and move towards even more ambitious goals, the Chinese minister noted.
He expressed the view that both sides should accelerate the mutual establishment of cultural centers, deepen local exchanges and cooperation, and establish more sister-city relations between provinces, regions and cities of the two countries.
Uzbekistan has achieved remarkable results in poverty reduction. According to Wang Yi, President Mirziyoyev's goal of eliminating absolute poverty by 2030 is achievable within the established timeframe. China will continue to share its experience to assist Uzbekistan in reducing poverty, the minister added.
He also stated that China highly appreciates the immediate support of the President of Uzbekistan for the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to cooperate with Uzbekistan in implementing the four global initiatives, uphold the international system with the United Nations at its center, strengthen coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and on the Afghan issue, optimize and strengthen the mechanism of cooperation between China and Central Asia, and jointly build a closer community with a shared future for China and Central Asia.
China welcomes Uzbekistan's participation in the preparations for the establishment of the Global Organization for Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence and its membership as a founding member, and hopes for Uzbekistan's early accession to the International Mediation Organization, which will allow us to jointly make new contributions to building a more just and equitable global governance system and promoting global peace and development.
On the same day, Wang Yi and his Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov held the second strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of China and Uzbekistan. –0–
