Moscow, November 21 (Xinhua) — Russian military personnel have taken control of the Ukrainian city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, TASS reported, citing a report by Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin reported that Vladimir Putin visited a command post of the Zapad group on Thursday, where he held a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff, the Chief of the Main Operations Directorate, the Commander of the Southern Group of Forces, and the Commander of the Zapad group. The president heard detailed reports on the situation in various areas, including around Kupyansk.

According to V. Gerasimov, units of the "West" group control the territory of Kupyansk and continue their offensive against Ukrainian formations surrounded on the left bank of the Oskol River.

When the president asked for clarification, "So, everything? Completed entirely?" Sergei Kuzovlev, commander of the West group of forces, answered affirmatively.

Kupyansk is the administrative center of the district of the same name and a large settlement in the Kharkiv region. The city is an important logistics hub, a hub for several railways and highways.
