Tbilisi, November 19 (Xinhua) — Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili discussed Georgian-Armenian relations and prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, who arrived in Georgia on an official visit on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current political processes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in the region.
At a joint briefing, M. Kavelashvili emphasized that, amid the tense global situation, both countries will continue to develop political and economic ties and people-to-people contacts. He also noted that, given the rapidly changing geopolitical situation, maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus is particularly important.
V. Khachaturyan, for his part, stated that Armenia had invited Georgia to participate in international events in Yerevan. "Armenia is actively preparing for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) and the 8th summit of the European Political Community. We look forward to Georgia's participation," he stated.
The Armenian head of state also expressed confidence that the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and various upcoming projects will transform the South Caucasus into a logistics hub.
“Opening up regional connections will enable the Persian Gulf countries, as well as the railways of Georgia and Armenia, to establish key links with European countries,” he emphasized.
