Moscow, November 18 (Xinhua) — Member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday said they reject any unilateral coercive measures that violate international law and hinder international cooperation.
In a joint communiqué published following the 24th meeting of the SCO Heads of Government Council, the heads of delegations emphasized that the SCO countries oppose any unilateral coercive measures, including economic ones, that contradict the UN Charter and other norms of international law, hinder international cooperation, and impede the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the document, SCO member states will resolutely defend an open, transparent, fair, inclusive, equitable, and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system.
In addition, the parties declared their intention to actively promote the improvement of the global financial governance system and strengthen the role of developing countries in international financial institutions.
The heads of delegations noted that international relations are currently undergoing profound historical changes.
As stated in the communiqué, the status of the countries of the Global South is constantly growing, and their role as a new political and economic center is becoming increasingly visible, which creates opportunities both for the development of all countries themselves and for equal and mutually beneficial international cooperation.
The parties also expressed deep concern about the increasing fragmentation of the global economy.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further improving the system of global economic governance and strengthening the multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization at its core.
The communiqué emphasizes that member states intend to promote the formation of a broad and open economic space in the region, advance equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, ensure the effective functioning of markets, supply chains, settlements and payments, transport corridors and logistics routes, as well as the stable flow of investment, goods, services and technology. –0–
