Abuja, November 17 (Xinhua) — Suspected gunmen infiltrated a government boarding school, shot dead a staff member, and abducted dozens of girls from a dormitory shortly before dawn on Monday in Kebbi state, northwestern Nigeria, police said.

As local police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar Kotakoshi told a press briefing, suspected “bandits” armed with sophisticated weapons scaled the school fence, “abducted at least 25 female students from the dormitory and took them to an unknown location.”

Noting that the number of missing girls could be higher, N.A. Kotakoshi reported that another school employee was wounded during the attack.

According to him, the incident occurred early in the morning at the Government Girls Secondary School in Maga community of Wasagu/Danko Local Government Area.

The official added that government troops are searching for the kidnapped schoolgirls, combing known bandit routes and nearby forests. –0–
