ANKARA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday attended a ceremony in Adiyaman province to inaugurate new houses built after the earthquakes, reiterating the government's commitment to supporting those affected by the 2023 earthquakes.
R.T. Erdogan stated that 38,157 new houses and offices have been commissioned in Adıyaman over the past two years.
In 11 provinces affected by the February 2023 earthquakes, the government has delivered 350,178 housing units to eligible beneficiaries. The President stated that 453,000 housing units are planned to be delivered by the end of the year.
On February 6, 2023, two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 7.6, struck southern Turkey. More than 53,000 people died and hundreds of thousands were left homeless.
According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, more than 715,000 buildings were damaged, 200,000 of which were destroyed or damaged beyond repair. Most of these were residential buildings, necessitating the construction of 680,000 new housing units.
