TOKYO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) — Japanese residents held a protest in front of the prime minister's official residence in Tokyo on Saturday evening, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Around 100 people attended the rally with banners and chanted slogans such as "Takaichi resign," "Anyone who can't conduct diplomacy is unfit to be prime minister," expressing strong dissatisfaction with Takaichi's recent provocative and erroneous statements.

At a parliamentary session on November 7, S. Takaichi stated that if mainland China were to use military courts and military forces against Taiwan, it could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan. She asserted that, under Japanese law, the Japan Self-Defense Forces could exercise their right to collective self-defense if such a situation were deemed "survival-threatening."

Later, S. Takaichi insisted that her words were in line with the long-standing position of the Japanese authorities, and she did not intend to abandon them.

Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao met with Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi on Friday to formally protest Japanese Prime Minister S. Takaichi's inaccurate remarks about China.
