Tashkent, November 15 (Xinhua) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting in the capital of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek leader's press service reported on Saturday.
As reported, on Saturday, private talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.-Zh. Tokayev took place at the Kuksaroy residence.
The parties emphasized that the current state visit will mark a new milestone in the history of Uzbek-Kazakh relations of strategic partnership and alliance.
"Trade turnover since the beginning of the year has reached $4 billion. The goal is to increase this figure to $10 billion by increasing mutual deliveries and import substitution. Cargo volumes are growing, with more than 40 flights per week between the cities," the statement reads.
"6,500 joint ventures have been established, and major projects are being implemented in priority sectors. A project portfolio worth over $8 billion has been prepared to develop industrial cooperation. To promote these projects, it has been proposed to launch a joint investment platform," the statement reads.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to expanding mutually beneficial partnerships in key areas such as energy, transport, the chemical industry, agriculture and water management, environmental protection, IT, and other areas.
The importance of further expanding interregional contacts was noted. An agreement was reached to hold the first Council of Regional Heads of the two countries in Kazakhstan in 2026.
