Beijing, November 13 (Xinhua) — From 2020 to 2024, courts at all levels in China completed 243,000 cases of intentional homicide and other serious violent crimes, a 6.75 percent decrease compared to the previous five-year period, according to data released by the Supreme People's Court (SPC).

According to data released at a national conference on criminal justice work held by the Supreme People's Assembly on Thursday, the number of cases involving intentional murder, robbery, kidnapping, arson, explosions, and the distribution of dangerous substances has dropped from more than 40,000 in 2015 to less than 16,000 in 2024.

During this period, Chinese people's courts completed 827,000 cases related to robbery, burglary, and theft, a 33.26 percent decrease compared to the previous five years. The number of drug-related criminal cases decreased by 58.5 percent.

Chinese courts have also stepped up their crackdown on crimes that infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of women and children, completing 2,957 cases involving the abduction and trafficking of women and children.

In accordance with Law 3967, the defendants were acquitted; serious errors in the sentences of 22 defendants in 21 cases were corrected; as a result of the review of the cases, 399 people were found not guilty.
