BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — China is willing to work with Spain to build a comprehensive strategic partnership with greater strategic resolve, greater development momentum and greater international influence, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday.

Xi Jinping made the announcement during a meeting in Beijing with King Felipe VI of Spain, who is in China on a state visit. This is King Felipe VI's first state visit to China since his accession to the throne and the first visit by a Spanish monarch to China in 18 years.

Welcoming the arrival of King Felipe VI in China, Xi Jinping noted that both China and Spain share a profound historical and cultural heritage. He said that, over the more than 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have consistently viewed and promoted the development of bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

Xi Jinping noted that the two countries respect and support each other and help each other achieve success, thereby setting an example of friendly coexistence and common development for countries with different historical and cultural traditions and social systems.

Both China and Spain have played a vital role in promoting global openness and cooperation and upholding international fairness and justice, he said.

Noting the outstanding contributions of the Spanish royal family to the development of China-Spain relations, Xi Jinping said that on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership, King Felipe VI's state visit to China is of great significance to promoting the continuous development of friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Stressing that China cherishes its traditional friendship with Spain and values Spain's unique role in international and regional affairs, Xi Jinping said the two sides should further strengthen mutual support, maintain high-level exchanges, and enhance strategic guidance to ensure the continued development of bilateral relations on the right track.

Xi Jinping called on both sides to further advance practical cooperation, assuring that China is willing to import more high-quality Spanish products and explore the potential for cooperation in emerging areas such as new energy, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence.

He also noted that the two countries should expand mutual investment, create more landmark projects, leverage complementary advantages, and jointly develop third-party markets such as Latin America.

China and Spain need to strengthen cultural and educational exchanges and support each other in properly developing their respective cultural and linguistic institutions in each other's countries, Xi said, adding that China will continue to extend the visa-free regime for Spanish citizens to further promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. -0-
