SHANGHAI, November 10 (Xinhua) — The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded on Monday. One-year preliminary contracts worth a total of $83.49 billion were signed, up 4.4 percent from the previous expo and setting a new record, the CIIE Bureau reported.
The EXPO business exhibition space, where 4,108 companies from 138 countries and regions were represented, exceeded 367,000 square meters. This is a new historical maximum in both scale and number of participants.
According to Wu Zhengping, Deputy Director of the CIIE Bureau, 290 Fortune Global 500 companies and leading industry enterprises were among the exhibitors, with 180 companies participating in all eight exhibitions since the establishment of CIIE.
Over the six days of the Expo, 461 new products, technologies, and services were presented, including 201 global, 65 Asian, and 195 Chinese premieres in areas such as biomedicine, technical equipment, and green and low-carbon technologies.
The 8th CIIE was attended by 43 trade delegations and over 700 sub-delegations, with the number of registered participants exceeding 460,000, up 7 percent from the previous year.
As Deputy Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China Sheng Qiuping noted, China has maintained its status as the second-largest import market in the world for 16 years, and during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Chinese imports of goods and services exceeded $15 trillion.
First held in 2018, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) was the world's first national-level import-focused expo. The CIIE aims to further open up China and transform its vast market into a shared opportunity for the world. Preparations for the 9th CIIE are already in full swing, with over 80,000 square meters of business exhibition space currently booked.
