Guangzhou, November 9 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with representatives of leading groups and individuals in the fields of mass physical education and professional sports in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province, on Sunday. The meeting took place ahead of the opening of the 15th All-China Spartakiad.
Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, warmly congratulated the distinguished sports figures, calling on them to conquer new frontiers, reach new heights, and make new contributions to building a strong sports nation.
Upon arrival at the Baiyun International Convention Center, the Chinese leader was greeted with prolonged, thunderous applause. Xi Jinping waved to everyone gathered, warmly interacted with the sport's leading figures, and posed for group photos with them.
Also present at the event were senior officials including Li Hongzhong, Zhang Youxia, Huang Kunming, Shen Yiqin and Wang Dongfeng. –0–
