Moscow, November 7 (Xinhua) — In the Moscow region, Russian Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service (FSB) officers foiled a plot to commit a terrorist attack. This was announced on Friday by Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk.

"Officers from the Center for Combating Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Moscow Region, together with their colleagues from the FSB, detained a 27-year-old resident of Volokolamsk. He is suspected of preparing a terrorist attack," TASS quoted her as saying.

According to I. Volk, the perpetrator initiated a conversation with an unknown individual on a messaging app and expressed his willingness to assist Ukrainian intelligence agencies. "On instructions from his handler, he went to a garage cooperative in the city of Lyubertsy in the Moscow region, where he retrieved a package containing an explosive device from a hiding place. The young man was supposed to deliver it to Izmailovsky Park in Moscow," the agency representative explained.

It was noted that the detainee has been arrested, and a criminal case has been opened. "Police officers are currently conducting activities aimed at identifying and locating the detainee's accomplices," I. Volk added. –0–
