As part of a grant project from RN-Purneftegaz (part of Rosneft's oil and gas production complex), researchers from the Faculty of Humanities at the Higher School of Economics developed teaching materials on the Forest Nenets language. The project aims to preserve the national cultures and traditional ways of life of the indigenous peoples of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

University linguists, in collaboration with teachers and activists promoting the preservation of national culture, have developed educational materials on the Forest Nenets language for elementary grades, a workbook for practical assignments, and a language trainer. The educational materials are already available online. Furthermore, after approval by relevant agencies, the materials are planned to be published and used in the educational process at national boarding schools.

The Forest Nenets language differs significantly from Tundra Nenets, which is spoken by most of the indigenous people of Yamal. Currently, the total number of native speakers of the "forest" language is estimated at approximately 1,000. The population remains strong, but since teaching their native language in educational institutions is organized using Tundra Nenets textbooks, which are not the Forest Nenets' native language, the number of native speakers is declining. A book developed for reading in Forest Nenets will help address the lack of literature.

The Nenets language is characterized by a complex system of rules for word formation and inflection. An online declension and conjugation trainer will help teach children correct word formation. Students will have the opportunity to complete homework assignments and take online tests to learn the correct word forms.

Preserving the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life is a key focus of Rosneft's social policy. The Company's enterprises implement numerous social projects in the regions where they operate, developing the infrastructure of northern villages, supporting reindeer herding families, and improving the facilities of educational institutions, social facilities, and healthcare facilities in areas traditionally inhabited by indigenous peoples.

Previously, with the support of RN-Purneftegaz, a project was implemented to prepare children for school directly in families' homes – in nomadic kindergartens. A collection of methodological materials, "Trends in Nomadic Education," was compiled, including developmental programs in the Nenets language, unique practices, and lesson plans for preschool education for children in nomadic groups.
