BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called on China and Iran to elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Stressing that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Iran relations, Wang Yi noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a successful meeting in September, during which the two sides reached important consensus and gave strategic guidance on deepening bilateral relations.

Next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iran, the Chinese Foreign Minister recalled, expressing China's readiness to work with the Iranian side to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote the development and advancement of the two countries, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

Wang Yi said China highly appreciates Iran's active support for the four major global initiatives put forward by Xi Jinping and is willing to work with Iran and other members of the international community to make positive contributions to building a more just and reasonable global governance system.

A. Araghchi, for his part, stated that Iran places particular emphasis on developing relations with China and is prepared to take advantage of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will be celebrated next year, as an opportunity to strengthen high-level exchanges, unlock the potential for cooperation, and strengthen mutual support.

A. Araghchi pointed out that the Iranian side highly appreciates China's commitment to justice in international affairs and noted that Iran expects to maintain close cooperation with China to jointly promote peace, stability and development in the region.

The two sides held an in-depth exchange of views on the Iranian nuclear issue. Wang Yi emphasized that China consistently maintains an objective and impartial position on this issue. He stated that the political settlement process is currently at an impasse, which does not serve the common interests of the international community.

As the Chinese Foreign Minister indicated, China highly appreciates Iran's recent confirmation that it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, supports Iran's legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and hopes that all parties will maintain dialogue and communication to bring the Iranian nuclear issue back on track for negotiations.

A. Araghchi expressed sincere gratitude to China for its fair position and positive role in the process of resolving the Iranian nuclear issue, emphasizing the Islamic Republic's readiness to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. –0–
