Beijing, November 5 (Xinhua) — Mainland China always values the opinions and suggestions of its Taiwanese compatriots and strives to create convenient conditions for them to travel to the mainland, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, announced on Wednesday.

The number of entry points in mainland China authorized to issue single-entry permits on arrival to Taiwan residents will increase to 100 from November 20, according to the State Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China.

Zhang Han announced at a press conference that Taiwanese nationals can fly or sail to the mainland from anywhere in the world and receive an entry permit at the port of entry within 30 minutes. The permit allows for a stay of up to three months.

The spokesperson added that Taiwan residents can also obtain a travel permit in the form of a card valid for five years in mainland China through exit-entry authorities at the county level or above or through travel agencies in Taiwan.

"For Taiwanese compatriots visiting mainland China for the first time, permits are issued free of charge, and entry to more than 1,000 tourist attractions is also free," Zhang Han said, assuring that the personal information of permit holders will be strictly protected in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Commenting on recent "warnings" from Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council and the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation about the "risks" of traveling to the mainland, Zhang Han said the Democratic Progressive Party administration in Taiwan is deliberately hyping the issue in an attempt to hinder cross-strait exchanges and travel.

“As long as the law is observed, our Taiwanese compatriots can travel to mainland China just as easily and safely as they return home,” the official spokesperson emphasized.
