Moscow, November 4 (Xinhua) — Russian airlines carried more than 1.1 million passengers between Russia and China in the first three quarters of this year, 40 percent more than in the same period last year, the Russian Ministry of Transport reported on Tuesday.

“In the first nine months of 2025, Russian airlines transported over 1.1 million passengers between Russia and China—an increase of 40 percent,” the report says.

It is also noted that during the summer season, 228 flights per week were operated between Russia and China.

The Ministry of Transport also noted that total freight traffic through checkpoints on the Russian-Chinese border increased by 47.5 percent in 2024 and by 22.6 percent in the first half of 2025. After modernization, the border crossings will be able to handle a total of 3.35 million vehicles per year.

Rail freight traffic has grown, reaching 9 percent in 2024 and 5.9 percent in the first eight months of 2025. Rail infrastructure is actively being developed in Zabaikalsk, the largest border crossing with China.
