BEIJING, November 3 (Xinhua) — A play based on Russian writer Nikolai Gogol's comedy "The Government Inspector" will be staged in China, director Ying Da's studio and the experimental troupe of the Central Academy of Drama announced Sunday in Beijing.
The new production of "The Government Inspector" is reportedly intended to give this classic Russian comedy a distinctive Chinese style.
"Although 'The Government Inspector' was written nearly two hundred years ago, its comedic techniques and satire remain timeless. We must pay tribute to the classics, inherit and develop them, so that N. Gogol will shine in the hearts of Chinese audiences," said the play's director, Ying Da.
The play stars Li Chengru, Huang Hong, Wang Jinsong, and Liu Wei. It will premiere in Beijing on December 13 and then tour to several Chinese cities, including Shenzhen (Guangdong Province, southern China), Changsha (Hunan Province, central China), and Xiamen (Fujian Province, eastern China).
