Wuhan, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — Saturday marked five years since the completion of the Three Gorges Dam in central China's Hubei Province.

Over the past five years, the project has effectively realized its benefits in areas such as flood control, power generation, shipping and water resource management.

As an important clean energy base, the Sanxia Hydroelectric Power Station has generated over 423 billion kWh of electricity over the past five years, equivalent to a reduction of 128 million tons of standard fuel consumed and 347 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Over the past five years, the Sanxia Hydroelectric Power Station has played a significant role in providing water to downstream regions during low-water periods, replenishing water reserves by 82.4 billion cubic meters to meet industrial, domestic and environmental needs in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Over the past five years, cargo throughput through the Sanxia hydroelectric power station's shipping locks has exceeded 700 million tons. Annual cargo throughput has exceeded 150 million tons for three consecutive years, and in 2023, it reached a record high of 168 million tons.
