Gyeongju, South Korea, November 1 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that economies in the Asia-Pacific region should strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, effectively seize new opportunities, confront new challenges, and jointly build a sustainable and bright future.

Xi Jinping made the statement in his speech titled “Building a Sustainable and Bright Future Together” at the second session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.

Currently, a new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is deepening, opening up new horizons for humanity, Xi Jinping noted.

On the other hand, the world faces weak economic growth and a widening global development gap, while challenges such as climate change, food and energy security are worsening, he said.

Xi Jinping put forward a three-point proposal.

First, he called on Asia-Pacific countries to further unlock the potential of digital and intellectual development in order to give the Asia-Pacific region a new impetus for innovative development.

According to Xi Jinping, economies should make full use of new technologies to expand their capabilities and advance, seize the opportunities of digital, intelligent and green development, and accelerate the creation and development of new-quality productive forces.

He called for efforts to promote the secure and orderly flow of data, deepen collaboration on open-source technologies, and create an open, competitive ecosystem for innovation.

According to him, the economies of the Asia-Pacific region must care for the well-being of all humanity and promote the rational and orderly development of artificial intelligence (AI), while ensuring its usefulness, safety and fairness.

China proposed the establishment of a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to provide public goods in the field of AI to the international community, he said, adding that China is ready to work with all APEC members to improve AI literacy and bridge the digital and artificial intelligence divide in the Asia-Pacific region.

Secondly, Xi Jinping called on Asia-Pacific countries to maintain their commitment to green and low-carbon development in order to create a new paradigm for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the Chinese leader, the economies of the Asia-Pacific region should remember their responsibility to future generations, strengthen the synergy between the green development strategies of all economies, promote the free flow of high-quality green technologies and products, accelerate the transition to a green and low-carbon economy, and vigorously combat climate change.

Xi Jinping noted that since announcing the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, China has built the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system.

China also presented its national proposals for responding to climate change through 2035 and will implement a dual-control system for the volume and intensity of carbon dioxide emissions across the board, he said.

Third, Xi Jinping called for building an inclusive and win-win future to inject new dynamism into inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

He called on Asia-Pacific economies to always put people first and strengthen policy communication, experience sharing and results-oriented cooperation to fully implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, jointly end poverty and promote shared prosperity for all people in Asia-Pacific.

Xi Jinping said Asia-Pacific economies should make full use of APEC's traditional strengths in economic and technical cooperation to promote balanced growth among developing economies.

China will more actively improve the system that provides a full lifecycle of services for all Chinese people and promote the high-quality development of the population, the Chinese leader noted.

China will also promote initiatives to introduce artificial intelligence into healthcare and improve women's digital literacy and skills so that the entire Asia-Pacific region can benefit from APEC cooperation, he added.
