Moscow, October 31 /Xinhua/ – Cooperation between China and Russia is characterized by strong complementarity, powerful momentum, and great potential, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui stated in an interview with the Russian publication Forbes.

"Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia has continuously deepened and reached an unprecedented level. Cooperation between the two countries is characterized by strong complementarity, powerful momentum, and great potential," he said, emphasizing that China has been Russia's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, while Russia ranks fifth among China's largest trading partners.

Zhang Hanhui noted that Russia is one of the leading exporters of oil and gas to China. The two sides also collaborate effectively on liquefied natural gas projects in Russia's Arctic regions. In terms of industrial cooperation, Russia is one of the world's leading markets for Chinese automobile exports. Major joint projects in key areas are being implemented sustainably.

The Chinese diplomat recalled that in 2024, the parties signed an updated version of the "China-Russia Investment Cooperation Plan," and this year they reached an agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments. "As China-Russia relations continue to develop steadily and cooperation deepens across all sectors, Chinese and Russian enterprises have broad prospects for doing business in each other's markets, and their potential is enormous," he said.

Speaking about the development of scientific and technological cooperation between China and Russia, Zhang Hanhui stated that it has achieved comprehensive, multi-level and large-scale development, yielded fruitful results and become an important pillar of the Sino-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era.

"Overall, scientific and technological cooperation between China and Russia has a solid foundation and perfect mechanisms, characterized by the early formulation of tasks in promising areas, rapid progress, and practical results. It has become an important force contributing to the high-quality development of bilateral relations, maintaining the stability of the global science and technology governance system, and building a community with a shared future for mankind," the Chinese diplomat noted, assuring that the parties will continue to strengthen strategic alignment, deepen innovative interaction, expand personnel exchanges, and jointly address the challenges and opportunities presented by the new scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation.

Zhang Hanhui also described cooperation between China and Russia in education as an important component of bilateral relations. He noted that the two sides are consistently implementing educational projects in accordance with the Roadmap for Russian-Chinese Humanitarian Cooperation to 2030, and are also actively collaborating within the SCO, BRICS, and other multilateral frameworks. "Universities in both countries have established 14 alliances of specialized educational institutions, encompassing over 600 universities, forming the world's largest bilateral inter-university cooperation network. Currently, there are 126 joint educational institutions and undergraduate and higher degree programs operating in China," he said, noting that cooperation in language training is yielding tangible results.

According to the ambassador, humanitarian exchanges between China and Russia have become increasingly close in recent years. He emphasized that China's introduction of a trial visa-free entry policy for Russian citizens with ordinary passports will significantly facilitate mutual travel between citizens of the two countries, stimulate exchanges in all areas, and, in particular, facilitate the rapid development of tourism cooperation.

Zhang Hanhui added that China expects Russia to soon implement corresponding easing measures, which will further facilitate mutual travel between citizens of the two countries. "We hope that China and Russia will seize the opportunity to develop more tourism products and routes that meet tourists' needs, continually improve service quality, and enhance infrastructure, so as to make tourism a vibrant new area of humanitarian exchanges and practical cooperation between the two countries," the Chinese Ambassador to the Russian Federation concluded.
