Paris, October 31 (Xinhua) — The Chinese cities of Quanzhou and Wuxi have been included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Creative Cities Network. The organization announced this in a press release on Friday.

The expansion of the Creative Cities Network coincides with World Cities Day. This year, 58 new cities from around the world joined, including Quanzhou and Wuxi.

The network encompasses eight creative fields: architecture, crafts and folk art, media arts, design, film, gastronomy, literature, and music. Quanzhou has been designated a "Creative City of Gastronomy," and Wuxi a "Creative City of Music." Both cities are distinguished by their vibrant cultural life, active support for creative industries, and innovative approaches to urban development.

According to UNESCO, including new members, the Network currently comprises 408 cities from more than 100 countries, recognized for their contribution to the development of creative industries and cultural life.

Established in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network brings together cities that use culture and creativity to create jobs, stimulate economic growth and strengthen social cohesion through skills development, support for creative professionals and the engagement of local communities.

Several other Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan, also came online earlier. –0–
