Beijing, October 31 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will attend the UN Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil, on November 6 as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced this on Friday.

At a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that China is ready to work with all parties to advance the global transition to green and low-carbon development, expressing hope that the upcoming conference will be successful and become an important milestone in the global climate agenda.

The Chinese diplomat recalled that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement, and this year countries must submit their new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), making it a key moment for global climate governance.

China has already submitted its NDC, demonstrating its leading role as a responsible major power in climate governance, Guo Jiakun stated.

“We hope to work with all parties to uphold the banner of multilateralism, strengthen unity and coordination, promote the global transition to green and low-carbon development, and build a clean and beautiful world,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson concluded.
