Ürümqi, October 31 (Xinhua) — A truck carrying dried plums from Uzbekistan recently cleared customs under the "border trade, on-site processing" scheme and entered the Alashankou border trade zone in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, before heading to the warehouse of a registered processing facility. This marks the official launch of this type of processing at the Alashankou border crossing, according to local customs officials.

The "border trade, local processing" model implies that goods imported through border trade undergo value-added processing in border areas. Local authorities facilitate the establishment of processing plants in border areas, and border residents sell imported raw materials to these plants.

Dou Chenjun, an official with Alashankou Customs, said the customs will continue to prioritize the development of border areas and the improvement of local people's livelihoods, and this model will promote the healthy development of border trade.
