Beijing, October 28 (Xinhua) — Preparations for the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), which will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, are nearly complete, Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping announced on Tuesday.
According to him, 4,108 overseas exhibitors from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations will participate in the event, with the total exhibition space exceeding 430,000 square meters, setting a new record in the history of CIIE.
The exhibition will feature the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, comprising 33 sub-forums and closed-door meetings. More than 80 other events, including meetings on trade relations and investment promotion, are also expected.
The Hongqiao Forum will publish the 2025 Global Openness Report and the Global Openness Index. The CIIE itself will showcase 461 new products, technologies, and services.
This year's CIIE will focus on new themes such as the silver economy, ice and snow economy, sports economy, and automobile tourism, along with new platforms for digital and healthcare consumption, the deputy minister noted.
The goal of this approach is to increase consumption of goods and services and stimulate new forms of consumption, he added.
Companies from 123 countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative have confirmed their participation, representing a 23.1 percent increase year-on-year.
In addition, the CIIE is expected to expand its dedicated area for African products, with the number of African enterprises participating in the exhibition expected to increase by 80 percent. -0-
