The Rosneft Research Institute in Tomsk held Russia's first championship for software developers in creating digital twins of oil and gas processing facilities. Participants demonstrated the capabilities of Russian IT solutions for modeling technological processes and training personnel.

During the remote stage, participants were asked to create a digital twin of a section of a compressor station's process flow diagram with a gas treatment unit, based on preset conditions. During the in-person presentation of their projects, a panel of experts evaluated the software's ability to accurately represent the object, including the model's response to various changes in operating modes.

Following the competition, RN-SIMTEP's corporate software was recognized as the best cross-platform* solution. The institute's specialists also piloted one of the products presented at the competition, which demonstrated excellent results in creating a virtual model of a production facility.

During the panel discussion, the championship organizers shared their own digital developments, which are successfully used throughout the production chain. Specifically, specialists at Rosneft's Tomsk Institute use over 80 proprietary programs and databases in their design and survey work. The high quality of their 3D field models, created using ready-made virtual assemblies of engineering structures, regularly wins awards at professional competitions.

Research institute specialists, together with partner universities, also gave guests a tour of additive manufacturing. At Tomsk State University of Civil Engineering, participants were shown the process of creating an urban infrastructure facility using 3D printing, while at Tomsk Polytechnic University, they presented solutions for reengineering components prone to frequent failure.

*Cross-platform is the ability of software to run on different platforms without the need for significant changes to the code.
