On the sidelines of the 20th East Asia Summit in Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk held a working meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Alexey Overchuk congratulated Malaysia on its successful chairmanship of ASEAN and the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which will define the association's development paths for the next 20 years and contribute to strengthening its sustainability and role in regional processes.

It was noted that cooperation between Russia and Malaysia in bilateral and multilateral formats is based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests. Adherence to these principles creates the best conditions for deepening partnerships and trade ties between the countries over the long term.

Alexey Overchuk and Anwar Ibrahim discussed current issues on the agenda of bilateral Russian-Malaysian trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, focusing on the implementation of projects in energy and agriculture, as well as joint efforts to strengthen transport connectivity between Russia and Malaysia to develop new supply chains between the north and south of Eurasia.

The parties agreed to continue contacts between the governments, financial institutions, and interested economic operators of Russia and Malaysia, including holding the next meeting of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation in November 2025.
